SUPERMARKET giant Asda is ahead of schedule for its development at Gorseinon.
The firm had been looking to open its latest superstore in the town in the first week in October.
It will now be open for business on Monday, September 27.
More than 3,000 people have applied for just 300 jobs the store which is currently being developed.
Asda set up a recruitment centre on Gorseinon Road in June and distributed 5,200 application forms.
The firm has had an influx of responses over the last six weeks for a variety of positions from warehouse staff to check-out operators, administrative positions and shop floor assistants.
It will be run by manager Steve Cuggy who will be assisted by a team of 13 managers.
Consultations have been held with the surrounding community throughout the development and as a result the store will not have a butchery or a fishmongers so as not to affect existing businesses in Gorseinon.
It will have a bakery. A spokeswoman for Asda’s recruitment centre in Gorseinon said: “We have had brilliant feedback from the applicants. Even people that we have rejected have written letters to us thanking us for our time.
“Some people haven’t worked or have been made redundant and some haven’t had an interview for more than 15 years, so it is difficult for them,” she said.
